20 June 2015 Saturday - Trails
This was the first day Kip and I went out to spray, decide on
shooting lanes for Lenise’s stand, put out some licks and put up
our first trail camera in time lapse mode.
We rented a sprayer from North Suburban Rental, brought two
coolers of water, purchased insecticide and Roland pitched in the
herbicide. We sprayed the main road out to the EastEnd, partially
sprayed the road out to John’s stand, did two passes on both
meadows, and used the tank sprayers to spray around the cabin
and the driveway to the gate.
We put out licks and sprinkled mineral attractant, near Kris &
Jon’s, Jessie’s, Lenise’s stands; poured out Sprout feed and
mineral attractant near Lenise’s stand.
There were three natural shooting lanes, so it was an easy trim of
a few small trees and some brush. We also cleared an area to
bare ground and spread Antler King’s Honey Hole.
We found the camera batteries did not last in time lapse mode;
the camera lasted about 4 four days. We swapped out the the
memory card and found not much was caught in time lapse
mode, so we switch to trail cam mode...

8 July 2015 Wednesday - Cameras
We ordered a second Browning camera from Trail Cam Pro and placed it
near the first camera.
It is amazing how much the spraying knocked down the plants and
knocked the mosquitoes and ticks. Our first trip out Kip and I pulled
about half dozen ticks; we did spray our clothes with Permethrin. This
time only one tick and the mosquitoes were hardly swarming, until we
moved away from the sprayed areas.
The Honey Hole food plot is growing well, and was pawed up by the deer.
I don’t have over-seed like I did, but the area needs more sunlight. The
Sprout feed was not being eaten once green plants starting to grow, so
we stopped putting that down. The licks and minerals sites however are
being used readily.
We swapped out memory cards, and found later there are bears in the
area, along with an Eastern Mountain Lion, which the DNR dubbed a
‘bobcat’...
12 July 2015 Sunday - Cutting & Spraying
We sprayed a second time, re-doing the road past Kris & Jon’s
stand out to the EastEnd, and the road past Roland’s stand to the
North Line...
